Tish Ciravolo, Founder & President of Daisy Rock Guitars

December 2007 Interviews

The Legendary Suzi Quatro... In March 2006 we had the pleasure of talking to Suzi shortly after releasing her first studio album in 15 years, " Back To The Drive." You can read that interview here. Now less then two years later we have that honor again as Suzi talks about her amazing career, and how that album, Back To The Drive, 15 years in the making, spurred her to write her newly released autobiography, "Unzipped."

And as a special treat for all you Suzi fans around the world who KNOW Suzi is the FIRST Woman of Rock, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the Suzi Quatro Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Mission Web Site -www.suziquatrorocks.com. Check out our December interview with Suzi here

November 2007 Interviews

Kitty Kowalski of Kitty and the Kowalskis... There are people in this world who are larger than life, yet completely down to earth. Kitty Kowalski is one of those special individuals. She possesses a dizzying array of skills, ranging from B-movie actress to buttoned-down business executive to sex-advice columnist (to name only a few), but it's her talent for making irresistible rock & roll that brought us to her door. Kitty has a daunting persona (one suspects it's not a good thing to be on her bad side!) but the overall impression she leaves is one of warmth and graciousness and passion for the things and people she loves. We've long admired her work and we couldn't be more excited to have her visit The Cover Zone. Check out our Novemmber interview with Kittyhere

August 2007 Interviews

Marti Dodson of Saving Jane... Saving Jane formed when Marti Dodson was attending Ohio State University. Marti showed up at a campfire party and met an excellent guitar player named Pat Buzzard. The duo began writing songs and soon decided to form a band. Saving Jane's current line up includes Marti handling lead vocals, Pat on rhythm guitar, Dak Goodman on drums, Jeremy Martin on bass, Brandon Hagan on lead guitar and Joe Cochran on keyboards. The band took their name "Saving Jane" from a cartoon character that Marti was doodling while passing time in the studio during one of their early recording sessions. Recently Lizz Randolph and Marie Atwell from The Cover Zone and Demo-ology.com had a chance to catch up with Marti and the boys in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Check out the interview here recorded live.

July 2007 Interviews

Lynda Mandolyn of Fabulous Disaster... It's one thing to soldier on in the face of adversity - many bands plod on long after the magic is gone. However, it's something else altogether to reinvent oneself so skillfully that prior triumphs are eclipsed. With Love At First Fight, Fabulous Disaster is giving notice that they're still playing profoundly melodic hyper-speed rock & roll, only they're now doing it even better than ever before. Recently we had a chance to talk to Lynda about "Love At First Fight," Fabulous Disaster and more....

June 2007 Interviews

Amy Schugar... Amy Schugar is a native of Phoenix Arizona who picked up her sister's guitar at the age of 14 and has never put it down. All the practice paid off - today Amy is an elite, exceptionally skilled musician. Her latest project "Under Construction" is a collaboration with Michael Schenker (Scorpions) and they are an awesome combination. Recently we had a chance to talk to Amy about "Under Construction," Michael Schenker and more.

May 2007 Interviews

Girl In A Coma... Girl In A Coma are an original sounding new three-piece band hailing from San Antonio, Texas. Jenn (bass) and Phanie (drums) were just two high school kids who knew they had to be in a band, but weren't sure how they were going to pull it off until Phanie's younger sister Nina turned out to be a great singer who also had surreptitiously developed guitar and songwriting skills that would help make the band complete...

April 2007 Interviews

Kelly O of The Dollyrots... Recently The Cover Zone had the opportunity to toss some questions toward the talented front-woman of The Dollyrots, Kelly Ogden. Check out what Kelly had to say about their new album "Because I'm Awesome" just released by Blackheart Records, new drummer Chris Black and much more. And also find out why their new video, due out this week, could cause an uproar with the powers to be at American Idol.

March 2007 Interviews

Overated... Overated a controversial ohio based punk rock band influenced by bands such as NOFX, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, and Propagandhi has a message to spread and pulls no punches in their delivery. Never one to apologize, Overated made no apologies when they defeated 50 other bands in the 2006 Catfights walking away with bragging rights and the same swagger they perform with. Their stage shows reflect the hardcore punk atmosphere of the eighties, filled with moshing, stage diving, and group chants. Their lyrics express their common disdain for war, Bush, the religious right, and neo-conservative ideology, making their 2005 release, "Ties That Bind," a must have. We were happy to get a chance to chat with Overated recently!

Heather Horton... Hawaiian born, Chicago based singer/songwriter Heather Horton is no stranger to the stage, having performed since the tender age of four. It should therefore be no surprise this self-taught violinist and guitarist, graced with a smooth, sensual voice, is said to be at her best while onstage. With the release of her debut album "Most Of All" a thrilling, evocative mix of melodies, harmonies and styles, it seems Ms. Horton is destined to fulfill her dreams. "Most Of All" is an album that is vocally and instrumentally mature and varied enough to reach a broad audience while also hitting the sweet spot for her most ardent fans. We're excited to offer Cover Zone readers the chance to learn a little more about this dynamic artist.

January 2007 Interviews

Laura Wood... Laura Wood's journey to where she is today has had more than a few twists and turns. She was once a world-class athlete in karate, but an unfortunate non-sports injury cut that career short. An Englishwoman and former London resident, she eventually arrived at her current circumstance of living and working in Holland. Once karate had been left behind and her musical career had begun, there were still many different band incarnations and groupings left to be sorted through. Not all of those changes were easy to deal with, but they led her to where she is today, on the verge of releasing her first full-length album

Lynn Julian - "Cookie Cutter Girl"... Hailing from the state of Maine, not widely known as a rock & roll hotbed, Lynn Julian brings enormous energy and enthusiasm to her musical alter-ego Cookie Cutter Girl. Not following a traditional indie path, Lynn earned a college degree in Jazz & Contemporary Music before embarking upon her professional music career. Once started, however, she has thrown herself into the endeavor with great passion. Her promotional efforts go far beyond the norm - she's had a hand in writing a Cookie Cutter Girl comic book and has hosted or co-hosted music-related television shows. Lynn presents a two-pronged attack - to make and disseminate fun pop music, and to spread her message to girls and women that they need not conform to a "cookie cutter" mold imposed by someone - anyone else

December 2006 Interviews

Sarah Greenwood of GSX... GSX is a relatively new band, but this rock band with a mixture of English and American members contains an impressive resume of music industry experience. Yet the driving force behind GSX is classically trained British front woman Sarah Greenwood. She offers not only a strong stage presence she emphasis' masterfully with her guitar but a vocal style that's undeniably aggressive and tough but definitely not one-dimensional - a description that also fits the band's new self-published CD, "Manifest".

October 2006 Interviews

Jenna Sanz- Agero of Vixen... Stepping into the shoes of any lead vocalist is hard, especially when those shoes were filled by Janet Gardner and the band is "Vixen". But that's exactly what the talented and charasmatic Jenna Sanz-Agero did in 2001. With her strong vocals and energetic stage presence Jenna let her talent speak for itself. Using her most precious instrument - her vocals - she has not only touched new Vixen fans but has won over the old guard as well. Not an easy task considering the hallowed reputation of this hard rocking band and the extremely loyal fan base that has stood the test of time.

Judy Hill of GIRL and Psalm 69... GIRL was initially formed back in 2000 by Judy Hill, a fixture in the Dallas music scene for many years. Judy's previous cohorts include the locally renowned bands Liquid Velvet and Psalm 69. After a few twists and turns, the lineup of GIRL has coalesced into Judy on lead vox/guitar, her long-time collaborator Izzy on lead guitar/vox, April Samuels on drums and Erin Reynolds on bass. Judging from the songs they have posted online, this latest incarnation seems to fall somewhere in the grittier section of the pop-punk realm..

Scarlet Sins... Hailing from Toronto, Canada - Scarlet Sins offers a sound that's definitely hard, but softened by enough melody to keep everyone listening. Within that basic hard rock framework they offer an impressive diversity of styles, not only between songs but even within individual tunes. Their website states that they'll begin recording their first full-length album this month. We're glad this up-and-coming band was able to stop by The Cover Zone for a little Q&A.

August 2006 Interviews

Jennifer Batten... Rising from the guitar underground in the late 1980's Jennifer Batten is arguably one of the best female guitarists to ever take the stage. Hailed as an innovator of the two hand tapping method that Van Halen made popular, Jennifer also wrote an instructional column for Guitar Player magazine.

The Flairs... The Flairs are a Canadian band preparing to take the world by storm with their catchy, hook-laden rock songs harkening back to the halcyon days of 80's metal and punk, sweetly flavored with a whole-lotta 21st century attitude. With the release of their second CD SHUT UP AND DRIVE and a US tour beginning in June 2006, THE FLAIRS will drive this point home.

July 2006 Interviews

The Misses... So many bands these days have agendas, or are desperately trying to convince you that they're either the Next Big Thing, or an ultra-hip alternative to that band. The Misses, on the other hand, stumbled into their musical career and the only thing they're trying to persuade you of is the urgent need to have a good time. Their self-deprecation is endearing, but what makes this message carry a punch is the fact that the band really rocks. Subtlety is not their forte - lyrical themes tend to revolve around booze, fast cars, loose women and cheatin' men, but that's no drawback for a rock & roll band. The Misses have no grand plan to knock anyone out of the Billboard charts - they're just here to have some fun, and they're inviting us to come along for the ride....

June 2006 Interviews

Drummer Sally Disaster of Fabulous Disaster... Sally discusses Fab D and the changes she has watched the band go through over the years as well as how Gina Schock of the Go-Go's influenced her ...

Dena Tauriello of Antigone Rising... We are excited to have the opportunity to attempt to get some insight into what life is like for Antigone Rising these days through the eyes of Drummer Dena Tauriello. Dena whowas influenced by Karen Carpenter, one of the first female drummers to find success, chats about Antigone Rising and what it is like for female drummers in today's music industry...

Musician Zoe Vette... "Transplanted from NYC to NC, unapologetic, non-conformist singer/songwriter/guitarist Zoe Vette is unrelenting with catchy choruses and gutsy riffs. Described by many as something between Gene Simmons, Joan Jett & the New York Dolls, her music melds a variety of genres but fits neatly into none. Influenced by Glitter/Glam, Shock Rock, Horror Punk, UK Punk & New Wave, she is able to portray all of these & force fit them into a new genre of her own." ...
