There’s no two ways about it: this is punk. For a band that’s been together for less than a year, I’m blown away by the chemistry that the members of The Explicits exude on their debut demo.

But for any Canadian band that has toured the States, I’m sure you’d agree there is just something different in the water. Last summer, when my band hit the road, the talent we saw from teenaged US bands proved over and over again to be superior to that which is produced by Canadian bands in the same age bracket.

Already securing tour dates with BlackHeart Record’s signed act, The Dollyrots, I’m sure that this is just the beginning of a long reign of successes for the Florida-based trio.

Though their key influences include Garbage, Slipknot, and Billy Talent, I’d argue their overall sound resembles more of a raw, raunchy punk drawing from greats like Black Flag.

Lead singer Renee Phoenix could easily be mistaken for Brody Dalle’s younger sister as her vocals seem to channel the same demonic signature force. Additionally, her physical stature is strikingly similar (whether this is intentional or not is yet to be determined).

Lyrically, it’s apparent that, like true punkers, The Explicits explore subject matter that has pissed them off.

This is definitely a strong debut, and I look forward to hearing the band’s first full-length efforts.

Keep your tabs on these guys, they’re likely to storm the stage of an upcoming Warped Tour.

My personal favorite track: "No Remorse"
