The Dollyrots Punch-Out a Punkin’ Awesome Album!

Punk with plenty of twirls and swirls of pop is the best way to describe this surprise sophomore release from the L.A. based band The Dollyrots. The title track, Because I’m Awesome, should easily become a top ten hit. Kelly Ogden, lead singer/bassist, just rips into this song with fun lyrics like:

"I always tell you how smart you are/ It’s cause my brain is really supersized/ You’re an academic superstar/Just look at me!"

But it is the chorus with the catchy lyrics that will have you believing that Kelly just might be as awesome as she claims as she chants:

"I’m a leader/ I’m a winner/ And I’m cleaner/Cause I’m awesome/I don’t need you/ cause I’m neato/ and I beat you /Cause I’m awesome/ That’s right!"

The song My Best Friend’s Hot is another winner with Kelly just soaring through about a secret crush on, well..her best friend. With plenty of whoa- whoas, go- gos and na -nas, this best friend she sings about should figure things out real soon.

But the real punk-driven song which should rocket is Brand New Key. In fact, this song might be the best one on the album. Guitarist Luis Cabezas soars and drummer Chris Black shows it off. Kelly’s vocals are simply superb and if you crank the volume on this track you will find yourself jumping up and down. Kelly lashes out; "I've got a brand new pair of rollerskates/You've got a brand new key!"

Kelly gets a little edgy on This Crush, as she sings about a relationship she might want but she quickly figures the guy has no interest. Then the pop comes out in full force on the finger-snapping Cat Calling. Another song, Tummy Tum Tum, is a fast-driven punk song with Kelly blasting; "I’m wanting eat you spit you out!"

The Dollyrots signed with Blackheart Records (yes..that is Joan Jett’s label) and with Jett’s producer, the legendary Kenny Laguna helping out on many songs, this CD is a breath of fresh punk-rock air with pop gone mad!

Because I’m Awesome was made with all the twists and turns of a fun punk album. This is definitely a must album to get ‘cause it’s Awesome!
