Shannon Moore's new CD may be titled "Evaporate" but I can't see her disappearing from the music scene anytime soon! With tasteful harmonies, solid writing, great guitar work and some excellent arrangements, Shannon has delivered a fine album. One that has remained in my CD player since I first received it!
There is definitely a Sheryl Crow influence that comes through, but at the same time Shannon manages to project a distinct sound and style. Several different influences are audible, but Shannon combines them into a pleasing mixture that's all her own. On some of her songs, I hear a Dusty Springfield breathy quality to her voice, at other times like on track 7 "LTD" Shannon pulls off some great effects, including the infamous wah wah pedal and you just want the song to continue for another 10 minutes or so!
Then as I listened to track 8 "Who Am I Now" I was reminded of Natalie Merchant's "Carnival" with some Shawn Colvin influences thrown into the mix. "Who Am I Now" is one of the best written songs I have heard in a really long time. It seems as if Shannon has really has managed to mix every great artist into her own sound, which I find remarkable.
Another great thing about Shannon is she doesn't really sound like anyone else that has come before her.
Shannon Moore will be filling arenas, making more great CD's and maybe even picking up a Grammy one day. Her career is just heating up - have no fear, when it comes to success in the music business Shannon Moore will definitely not "Evaporate".Shannon Moore Links
