GeEkgirl: May Contain Traces of Boy
Band Members
Fi - Vox, Guitar
Ted - Guitar /Vox
Joel - Bass / VoxWhat do you get when you mix a little blues, maybe a hint of country and definite rock and roll attitude? One word: "Geekgirl", Manchester, England's latest three piece incarnation who's definitely NOT a loser in my books as their name would suggest.
"Get It On" was a brilliant choice as the opening track hooking the listener at the sound of the very first strum. As my listening experience ensued, each song continued to live up to the hype.
Frontwoman Sofia's got one hell of a range and their album, "May Contain Traces of Boy" definitely allows her to demonstrate both her belting and falsetto abilities. Her singing style is reminiscent of Belinda Carlisle's of The Go-Gos, but up the passion and emotion 110% and you get the sound of Geekgirl.
Contrary to oh so many female fronted bands who whine and bitch about failed relationships in a rather pathetic manner, the lyrics of Geekgirl reflect quite the opposite. On tracks such as "You Owe Me", Sofia demands to be heard as a strong woman who's not going to let a relationship cripple her.
"Elvis" is undeniably my favourite track on this album. With delicate vocals, a gentle bassline, and beautiful piano, this song is so haunting it could induce tears in even the most macho of listeners.
This album does not relent in delivering high powered hooky well written material. I imagine this three piece act puts on one hell of a live show. With their lively songwriting, I can't see how they could not! If I lived anyone even remotely close to England, you can be rest assured I would see them in concert.GeEkgirl Links
