Curly Grrlz Artist Search Contest- Michele Vreeland

2007 Curly Grrlz "Hip Clipz" Artist Search Contest

Michele Vreeland

Biography

California's own Michele Vreeland is on the rise to becoming the next great singer/songwriter to come out of Los Angeles! Her upcoming Album "Never not myself", due out this November 2007, with songs "Wanted to say", "I'm a person", "Who I am", and "LA Dream", New fans are lining up everyday to hear her perform these self-written. Catchy, but refreshing songs! Michele's voice is really hard to define by just naming another artist but her style been compared from anyone to "Karen Carpenter" ,"Janis Joplin" to "Sarah McLaughlin" meets "Madonna". With Writing style by likes of Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morrissette. In reality, her sound is unique and all her own!

Harriet Schock, Platinum songwriter/recording artist, has this to say about her, "Michele Vreeland is a gifted singer/songwriter with an innate sense of melody and harmony and a unique take on things which makes her lyrics interesting and distinctly hers. Her voice is exceptional, which, combined with her ability to arrange and produce, creates recordings that can be listened to over and over".

Michele as a young girl was often shy about singing in public. Being a "tomboy", spent her childhood skateboarding, sewing, writing, listening to Depeche Mode, Sinead O'Conner and The Beatles! In Jr. High school everything changed for Michele when she stood up in front of her peers to audition for the school play "Oliver" and sang "Who will buy my sweet red roses 2 blooms for a penny." The room gasped and looked up at her with confusion and the choir teacher got very excited and gave her the part! However, Michele's singing career was soon put to a halt when her family moved to where they had a very limited music program.

Always into learning something new she picked up and learned how to play the guitar instead. It wasn't until in high school that Michele became more active in singing. Michele joined choir her junior year and was in madrigals her senior year! This is where Michele learned the most about her voice and what she could do with it! Michele doses all of her own backing vocals on her tracks for the upcoming album, "Never not myself". Michele often thinks about her childhood and life lessons that she's learned along the way and her songs have a timeline that are derived from different periods of her life.

"Wanted to say" was written with her brother Timothy Vreeland while they were sitting on a couch playing around. But later Michele fine tuned the music and lyrics to be what it is today! "I'm a person", written after she made it out of a bad relationship, is lyrically compelling and empowers you to feel stronger about who you are as a person. And her delivery when singing "Just me, I can be just me", defines high notes that have never sounded so fluid and clear! " Want more" an epic song, beautifully showcases Michele Vreeland's clean and clear low alto vocals mixed in with her signature charging high notes when she sings the line "you can sacrifice everything when you don't do, don't do what makes you sing" send you soaring to another plane! "Who I am", a rock infused ballad to moving on, leaves you wanting to know more!

When leaving Michele Vreeland's performance you feel just a little better about yourself and are amazed that some girl playing guitar, singing her songs can make you feel that way. Michele has found a way to communicate through her music to say the things that your soul wants you to hear.

In Michele's words "I wanted the songs on this record to tell true stories about life, philosophy and moving on! It's a record of strength, perseverance, and finding your voice. That is why I started 100 girl spill records. It has provided me with the independence and freedom to say what I want to say".
