Noush Skaugen
Biography
Noush, who has been described as a Stevie Nicks blended with female Mick Jagger, had momentum starting to build in 2006 when Noush Skaugen took the podcasting and myspace scene by storm. The British singer/songwriter's releases Skid and Gone quickly went into steady podcast rotation. Gone entered the international PodPlay Top 10 at #9 in its first week amongst Panic at the Disco and Alice Cooper.
Classically trained on flute, piano and saxophone Noush played in jazz, wind and funk bands as well as the renowned London Barbican Orchestra.
With her move from London to New York with nothing but a suitcase and guitar in hand, Noush teamed up with KrishnaXL to write and sing for his album One. Moment of Silence which Noush Skaugen and KrishnaXL co-wrote was the first single of the internationally distributed album.
Moved to Los Angeles, Noush wrote and sung with DJ/Producer team Sugardip on what became Miami's dance-floor anthem for 2005.
With producer Richie Stites (Outkast, Michael Jackson), Noush Skaugen's solo debut Palomino went into production shortly after.
The iTunes Exclusive preview to Palomino, Skid led to Noush's radio debut on Sirius Satellite Radio via Pacific Coast Hellway on Sirius Stars 102, reaching millions of listeners across the USA and Canada. Host Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff found her to be "Possibly the best singer you haven't heard yet"
Gone, the podsafe preview to Palomino landed her a full feature on the Net Music Countdown with David Lawrence who also included Noush Skaugen with their NMC Fantasy Music League. The NMC is the online music equivalent to Billboard Magazine's retail charts.
Winning the internationally voted MyNetworkTV solo artist competition got Noush included on the soundtrack of Desire, MyNetworkTV's evening series.
Her success did not stay unnoticed by the international media either. Swiss magazine 20 Minutes labeled Noush as the "Poster-child of the digital music revolution".
Performances on HD.net, KJLA TV and numerous podcasts followed one after the other with glowing reviews. Cali Lewis of Podshow's GeekBrief.tv described Noush's music as "Emotions conducted by life, music from the heart".
As a live experience Noush Skaugen can call places like the legendary Viper Room, The Derby or The Mint her musical living room in LA.
Her Solo Debut EP 'Palomino' has just been released to the Public and already receiving rave reviews; Digstation featured the EP as 'Pick of the Week', Airplay Direct has just handpicked Noush as 'Featured Spotlight Artist' for the month of March, and now the single 'Gone was chosen to be Featured on the 'Best New Bands 2007' compilation CD going to Colleges & University Radio Stations all over the USA.
National magazine No Cover didn't just put her in the listing for "Bands To Watch 2007" which brought us bands like Blink 182 but also included Noush Skaugen on their No Cover Groupies Suck #10 Compilation amongst major label artists. Introduced at the SXSW Music Festival, the compilation will be distributed by Barnes & Noble.
As the only artist on SXSW's "Texas Sized Compilation" Noush Skaugen was selected for a double feature with the songs Skid and Gone. The Compilation premiered at 2007's SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas.
Earning her festival chops at SXSW and Texas Rock Fest in Spring 2007 and one month later at the Austin's Women's Music Festival, "showcasing the best in female indie talent" marked another peak in Noush's visit to the lone star state.
Noush Skaugen was the celebrity guest on "The Jeffrey Henderson Show" at KLAS 89.7 FM Los Angeles & gave an in-studio performance.
Most recently LA's no.1 Hit Radio Station KIIS FM 102.7, did a Web Exclusive of Noush with an interview & live performance.
Her upbringing in the UK, time in France & now the States has undeniably added a special flavor to Noush's sound which some compare to Alanis Morrisette meets Joni Mitchell with a sprinkle of Nathalie Merchant.
But there's one thing that all reviews had in common: Noush Skaugen is unique - there is no-one else out there quite like her.
